• Realistic and practical recommendations that coincide with nutrition goals
Misconceptions about dietitians:
We provide meal plans...
Yes, some dietitians provide meal plans. However, this is per the dietitian's discretion and whether the client would benefit. Meal plans tend to be temporary and can be an unrealistic way of eating long term.
My weight determines how health I am...
Wight is not always important and is not reflective of an individual's health status. Placing a heavy emphasis on weight during consults can have the reverse effect. Negative attitudes and behaviours can be created, leading to clients having unhealthy relationships with food.
* if you feel uncomfortable discussing your wight, please let your dietitian know.
Dietitians are the food police...
Although we advise clients on how to improve diet and overall health, no foods or food groups are off limits. All foods have their place, and it is our job to help clients gain the skills and knowledge to create a balanced diet and lifestyle.
What's the difference between a Dietitian and a Nutritionist?
Both these professions help people in reaching optimal health through food and nutrition, however only an Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD) registered with the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) is qualified to provide medical nutrition therapy or clinical nutrition consults in a group or individual setting.
